On February 26, 2025, a Parliamentary Evening took place at the Leibnizhaus Hannover, where the L3S Research Center presented its research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to members of the Lower Saxony State Parliament and selected guests from administration and business. Also involved were Prof. Dr. Margrit Seckelmann and Dr. Iheyani Nkwanko from the Institute for Legal Informatics (IRI) of the Faculty of Law in Hannover.

After a welcome by Dr. Johannes Winter (Science Manager of L3S), the Lower Saxony Minister of Science, Falko Mohrs, delivered a greeting address highlighting the importance of L3S's AI-related research for the scientific community in Lower Saxony. This was followed by two technical lectures from Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Neidl (Managing Director of L3S) and Prof. Dr. Bodo Rosenhahn (Institute for Information Processing).

The subsequent discussion round was led by Prof. Dr. Marius Lindauer (Institute for Artificial Intelligence) and Dr. Johannes Winter (CIO of L3S), who integrated two more L3S members into the discussion: Prof. Dr. Thomas Seel (Institute of Mechatronic Systems) and Prof. Dr. Margrit Seckelmann. The topics covered a wide range, from image recognition methods and neural networks to "Green Energy," data protection, and copyright law.

Following this, the parliamentarians had the opportunity to engage with the participating scientists over drinks and snacks to learn more about individual research projects. Dr. Nkwanko and Prof. Dr. Seckelmann presented the TENACITy project. This interdisciplinary project addresses the legal and ethical limits of using AI in counter-terrorism. Leibniz University Hannover, represented by the IRI, is among the 17 consortium partners from 10 countries.

The evening concluded with positive impressions from numerous discussions about "AI made in Lower Saxony." Special thanks were given to L3S, particularly Dr. Johannes Winter and Susanne Oetzmann, for the excellent organization of the event. Further information about the event can be found here.
