With the series “Did you know?”, we would like to introduce our website and the services offered by our faculty to younger students in particular.
This part of the “Did you know?” series presents the institution JurSERVICE to you.
The Faculty of Law regularly achieves above-average results in surveys, especially in the areas of study conditions and student support services. JurSERVICE plays a major part in this: it is an institution run by former students of our faculty. In close cooperation with the Dean’s Office, JurSERVICE offers numerous services targeting students at all stages of their studies.
Below, we would like to briefly introduce some of these services and give you an overview of what JurSERVICE offers:
JurSERVICE’s offers
Especially starting university is a big challenge for many students. To support students in this phase, JurSERVICE offers the Tutorial I. In groups of 20–30, first-semester students are accompanied through their first semester by experienced students from higher semesters. Alongside weekly tutorial meetings, JurSERVICE staff also hold regular information events. This way, new students not only have the opportunity to make new friends, but also receive the support they may need in the first weeks and months.
If the results of the first exams still do not turn out as hoped despite support, students can make use of the Exam Clinic to better understand their results and learn from their mistakes for their future studies. Besides discussing personal mistakes, the basics of successful problem-solving are also addressed. Students who have had difficulties in the early semesters can, from the third semester onwards, take part in the Exam Lab, working in small groups on their specific problem areas. The focus here is on exam strategy, argumentation techniques, and the application of the 'case-solving style'. The groups are each supervised by academic staff.
But JurSERVICE also offers support for especially high-performing students: members of the so-called Dean’s List have the opportunity to make early contact with potential employers. Additionally, Dean’s List participants share their knowledge with lower semester students as tutors in Tutorial II. In this way, both sides benefit from the special support.
Furthermore, JurSERVICE offers a whole series of other events that accompany and support students up to their first compulsory subject examination. These include the Written Mock Exam and information events such as “How to write a seminar paper” and workshops like “Writing seminar papers properly”.
