This year's round of the Soldan Moot Court has concluded, and the teams from the University of Hannover can look back with pride.
The Soldan Moot on Legal Practice (Soldan Moot) is a nationwide moot court competition for students of German law faculties. On the basis of a fictional case, a German court proceeding is simulated, and students become familiar with the forensic work of lawyers. As legal counsel, students are expected to analyze a case, evaluate evidence, and present legal arguments. They should also address opposing arguments and ultimately convince the court of their position. Each year, the case also provides important practical knowledge about the legal profession. In addition to legal skills, students are encouraged to develop key "soft skills" such as public speaking, argumentation, and teamwork.
Progress of the Soldan Moot Court
At the beginning of October, the Soldan Moot Court 2025 was brought to a successful conclusion. The entire Hannover team looks back on this intense and instructive period with great joy and justified pride.
In the written phase in July and August, the teams worked with high concentration—often until late at night—on the statement of claim and statement of defense. In September, the oral phase began, where Team Hannover pleaded before numerous practitioners and gained valuable feedback for their pleadings. Special highlights included trips to Hamburg and Düsseldorf as well as law firm visits in Hannover, which offered exciting insights into practice. At this point, we would like to sincerely thank all supporters of this year's Soldan Moot Court.
The hard work visibly paid off in the end.
Team II secured third place at the PreMoot at Bucerius Law School and also achieved three awards for outstanding individual oral performances.
Both teams were successful in the final rounds in Hannover as well and each reached the quarterfinals.
Team I ultimately prevailed, winning both the prize for the best statement of defense and for the best oral advocacy.
