The Leibniz University of Hannover participated in this year’s 30th annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot from 1 April 2023 until 7 April 2023. The Hanover Team attended as one out of 378 teams originating from 89 countries. After the Vis Moot was conducted virtually for the last three years, this year the team was able to compete again in the finals in Vienna in person. Successfully, Franziska Paul and Julius Grotjahn represented the Leibniz University of Hannover in the General Rounds against the University Pantheon-Sorbonne (Paris I) (France), the University of Pristina (Kosovo), the Free University of Tbilisi (Georgia) and the Panamerican University Aguascalientes (Mexico).

Due to their excellent performance, Franziska and Julius advanced to the Elimination Rounds as one of the best 64 teams. They pleaded the longest session against the Universidade de Lisboa and went on into the round of the best 32 teams. After a passionate performance of both teams and a well-deserved win of the University of Buenos Aires, the exciting Vis Moot journey found an end for the Hanover Team.

Besides the magnificent outcome in the orals, the Hanover Team was also successful in the written phase. The team got awarded with an “Honorable Mention for the Werner Melis Award for the Best Memorandum for Respondent”.

We congratulate the team for the outstanding performance. A special “thank you” goes to the coaches, Dennis Löher and Tobias Bremer, for their commitment and Professor Wolf’s patronage.
